Man Gets N12M UK Scholarship, After Spending 7 Years In School Due To ASUU Strike

As shared by Gift Odoh on LinkedIn.

I spent 7 years on a 5-years programme that I could have as well completed in 4 and a half years.

No, I did not fail any course. And no, I doubt it was “my village people”. So what happened?

Well, Nigeria’s public university happened to me!

From the wonderful #ASUU strikes, the internal strikes, the unnecessarily long sessional breaks to a campus unrest, that was how my #dreams and plans got delayed.

Some of my secondary school mates who went to private universities & overseas are now doing their PhDs, married with kids, or fully employed.

In May 2019, I finally graduated, and by June, I was in the Keffi NYSC orientation camp. Just for your information, there was no joy in that camp, at least not for me!

The fear of spending another year after NYSC ‘terrorised’ me & so I began to hunt for Masters #scholarships. Unfortunately for me, I targeted more from FGN & related oil companies.

All denied me interviews because of NYSC Discharge Certificate. I remember even calling one to inform them that I will be done with service in a few months, long before the programme’s commencement. The woman who picked yelled at me ernnn. “Lord, why me?”😩

Long story short, I got a £24390 scholarship from the University of Nottingham a month after my NYSC.

Yesterday, I have happily resumed physically. #BeFirm
