Proud Lady Who Just Became A Canadian Citizen With Her Family Shares Inspiration
Proud lady named Funke Bishi has shared her journey so far as she recently became a Canadian citizen with her family.
Read her post below as shared on LinkedIn:
My family and I took the oath to become 🇨🇦 Canadian citizens just a few days ago. Reflecting on this milestone reminds me of our Canadian journey and prompted me to write this note.
It took a lot of courage to leave our loved ones, my widowed mum and a thriving career to relocate to Canada for new opportunities, with the kids in mind and confidence that God got our back. God has been faithful, indeed!
I am humbled for the opportunity to wear and switch daily between the following hats 👒 during the journey:
An Immigrant
A wife & mum of 3 energetic kids
A woman in Data & Technology
A woman in Capital Markets
Finance & Risk Management Professional
Navigating the journey to this point wouldn’t have been possible without a robust support system. @Rufai Bishi, my No.1 cheerleader and hubby. Thanks for being there, especially when it felt like dropping the ball.
I’m thankful to RBC for the opportunity to transfer my knowledge, experience and culture to relaunch my career in Canada and contribute to the bank’s purpose of “helping clients thrive and community prosper.”
I feel fortunate to work for an organization that promotes flexibility, diversity, employee growth and development. I appreciate the RBC family, my leaders, mentors, managers and everyone that supported me in this journey.
Funke went further to share the tips that helped her achieve her dreams.

Sharing some of the lessons/tips that helped me along the way, hoping that someone will find this helpful:
Define and stay focused on your goals – It’s easy to be unfocused in a world with many distractions. Stay focused on your goals and continue to picture the results and satisfaction it will bring. This is priceless!
Flexibility & Resilience – Most things worth doing sometimes don’t go as planned. When obstacles arise, change your direction to reach your goal and not your decision to get there.
Embrace Constructive Feedback – Feedback ignites growth. Seeking and being open to taking constructive criticism from others is vital to get to the next level.
Growth Mindset – There’s always more to learn. Be curious, invest time and energy in continuously learning new skills as you work towards the future you desire.
Mentorship – Find a mentor who can tell you what it’s been like and inspire you to unlock your potential. On the flip side, embrace the opportunity to mentor others by sharing your learnings and experiences.
Mentoring others has been fulfilling and offered me the opportunity to give back. I look forward to continuing to support aspiring women in the technology and data space!
