Never Allow Your Spiritual Father Take The Place Of God In Your Life -Apostle Emmanuel Iren
While teaching during the Second Service on Sunday, Apostle Emmanuel Iren stressed that believers should never allow their spiritual father to take the place of God in their lives.
He explained that mentorship is either a blessing or a curse and that one must follow wisely. He shared how the Church had wanted to plant branches but he was discouraged by several of his mentors. “There is almost no major major decision we have taken as a ministry that some senior men of God did not try to discourage us from” – he stated.
He further said that very few people know how to mentor people who will be greater than them. He also stated, “our idea of mentorship in Africa is to put you under; that I must always be in front.”
He further explained, “for the fact that someone was instrumental at some point of your Christian journey doesn’t make them your spiritual father. Otherwise John the Baptist would have been Jesus’ spiritual father.” He also illustrated that John the Baptist didn’t go about telling people that he ordained Jesus into ministry or he was the one that opened the Heaven over Jesus. If one is not careful, mentorship will limit you – he stated.
He also said any counsel a mentor gives you is still subject to the promptings of God in your heart. He also admonished believers, “if a mentor gives counsel and God is leading you in a different direction, disregard the counsel and obey God.” He concluded by saying, mentors can be wrong. “They are not infallible” – he remarked.
