I Struggled With Voice Range While Recording Album During Pregnancy

Tiwa Savage, the Nigerian songstress, has opened up about how pregnancy affected her voice during the recording of her second studio album ‘R.E.D’.

In a recent interview on Afrobeats Intelligence, the ‘You 4 Me’ hitmaker recounted that recording the album was a “struggle” as pregnancy affected her vocal range and made her more emotional.

She said the changes in her voice forced her to adjust the key of some songs on the project.

She further revealed that Don Jazzy helped keep her energy up during the album recording by making sure her pregnancy cravings were met.

“I was pregnant when I worked on ‘R.E.D’. I would be in the studio crying in the corner with my big belly,” she said.

“I had to change the key of some of the songs on the project because being pregnant affected how I could hit some notes.

“It was a struggle to record the album, and I was very emotional. I was the first person to have a baby in Mavin, so they will get me what I used to crave, which was eggs and bread.

“…As soon as they notice my energy is going down, Jazzy will get them to get me my cravings.”

Savage recently shared how she joined Mavin Records, revealing that she “shamelessly” asked Don Jazzy to sign her when he launched the label.

The singer joined Mavin Records in 2012 and was one of the label’s leading artistes.

In May 2019, she exited Mavin and signed a global recording deal with Universal Music Group.
