This trip was 4 year overdue for reasons out of my control but I’m so glad I finally went home.

Studying abroad is fun and all but having thousand of miles between yourself and family is difficult.

You can FaceTime, send messages, call, but nothing beats a hug from your mum or the smell of home.

Most importantly, the chance to reconnect with your source, the opportunity to refill your cup, to remember who you are and where you come from, are all invaluable.

A Yoruba adage says “a river that forgets its source will dry” but what if the source was too far away? So far away that efforts you make to reconnect seem futile?
It’s easy to loose perspective and it’s even more difficult to stay grounded in an increasingly ‘independent’ world.

I’m thankful to Allah for the continued guidance and I pray this won’t be my last trip home 🙏🏾

To all international students and migrants who are facing similar challenges, don’t loose home. You’ve got this 🙌🏽
