Lady Whose Visa Got Denied Twice Finally Bags Masters From Canada University As She Never Gave Up
A lady named Timilehin Abegunde has shared an amazing Inspirational story of her life on LinkedIn.
She says;
Just after my National youth service corps(NYSC) in 2016 (a mandatory service for all Nigerian graduates), I was ready and determined to pursue my dreams by furthering my education in a Canadian institution( Masters and Ph.D. thereafter).
I applied to Concordia University and got my admission with ease within 3 months to study Industrial engineering(M.ENG)
But Life hit!!! my study permit got rejected three times starting in 2017. I gave up after the second attempt in 2018 and decided to settle for a Master’s at the University of Ibadan.
Thankful to Olufunsho Ola L. a friend I met during NYSC and was studying at Concordia at the time. She encouraged me to try once more, I wasn’t so motivated at the time because I had commenced a Master’s degree at the University of Ibadan. But I did one last time, and the most shocking thing happened, I didn’t get feedback from the embassy for a very long time. At this point, I knew I wasn’t going to try again and would continue my masters at the University of Ibadan, take up a lecturing position and pursue my doctorate.
I got a job to lecture at a top private university in Nigeria, coincidentally on that same day, I got a response from Canadian Immigration approving my visa after 12months of application. a tough choice to make right? but I chose to further my studies at Concordia University.
Exactly a week ago, I graduated from Concordia University as an Industrial Engineer. In the beginning, I thought I lost time, but looking back at how it all played back, I was right on time. Studying in the midst of a pandemic wasn’t the easiest, but I became more prudent, motivated, and disciplined along the line.
I decided to share my story because I believe someone out there is on the verge of giving up on their dreams and aspirations.
- Keep pushing! Don’t give up! Your dreams are valid
- Change is constant: As we grow, we understand what we want to do better. Don’t settle! Keep moving. I didn’t further my Ph.D. because I understood what I wanted along the line even if it took me to start all over.
- Delay is definitely not Denial. I know you’ve heard it so many times, but it is very true.
- Surround yourself with positive and like-minded people. People who could motivate you when on the verge of giving up.
- When you look back, you would realize that you were definitely right on track.
I mastered it twice !! M.ENG INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT and the long-term goal is to be a Technical Project manager that solves problems through engineering solutions and business innovation.
